View Full Version : Tattoo, you?

For those who were interested, hers an update on a post made a while back regarding Tattoos.

After a grand total of 8+ hours in the chair, from outline to final inking, the dragon on my back is complete.

Images will be posted when it has healed. Right now, its like a drum, and stretched almost as tight. Makes it somewhat difficult to do much, even sleep, as i do not rest upon my side very well. i am most definetly a back sleeper, and to rest on my stomach is most uncomfortable...even more so now.

The pain was not so bad. I found the outline to be somewhat more of a sharper sensation than the actual filling in. After the first sitting last Thursday, there was still some residual burning that caried over to the Friday sitting...which, in turn is still...there.

As much as I would like to take some time off work to regain what I have lost in sleep, I wont. I will deal with the lingering burn of the "dragon's flame" and make sure it is kept care of. Part of the tradition, after all, both in the art sense and for me, in the spiritual.

If you dont see me post much this week, y'all know why.

Dark Faire

not very big.... they are both about an inch and a half... the one on my sholder only cost me fifty because i was in detroit.... the one on my ankle cost me seventy-five because i was up north in the middle of f*cking no-where...

well, since january i've got 2 tats. one in memory of my father on my right should/arm. it's just a cross wrapped in like a torn ribbon and it says "RIP DAD" it's black, and yellow. and the 2nd one i just got about 2 weeks ago. it's on my right forearm. it's a man standing infront of a stone cross being executed by a firing squard. the firing squad isn't visible it's just the man and the cross. once i get pictures, i'll show who ever wants to see it. and for those afraid of the pain. it's not really that bad, honestly both of mine didnt hurt, but everyone is different. and pricing varies from artist to artist. the size is just a small factor. anyways that's my two cents.

Woah! A Question?!? Awsome! Much better than the other crud Ive had to wde through of late.

To answer, the design I now bear was something that caught my eye in form. The "t" look with the wings and exteneded serpentine body fit so well to my own shape that I knew it would be perfect. I searched for a few different design and found something that sort of matched my idea to what I wanted and used it as a template for shape, making it appear a little more edgy and sharp in the tribal form.

Technically, it is not an original design, nor is it a straight copy. Even my inker made a few more adjustments to it before it was laid down.

-Grey

Kronos
06-18-2005, 11:13 PM
im rather glad to know that it wasn't straight from the book, i've always held more original work in a higher regard. The shape of it is perfect on you and I think the tribal style is spot on.

how much was yours? The one I have in mind would only tilt towards a tribal desing slightly, undoubtedly adding more time to it being a fuller design. I spoke with an artist up in atlanta when i was planning something a bit more extravagant and now that i've scaled the design back im trying to get some kind of comparison on hours of work and the like.

excuse me for being so round-a-bout in talking about the design i want, i'd rather not anyone else get the idea of having it done, especially before I can afford to do it myself. I had once intended on getting an Alice tattoo on my upper arm until I noticed someone else with the exact same ink already.

That's why I dont like the idea of getting something so ordinary such as a heart or four leaf clover or that type of crap. It is meant to be a peice of art, and as famous as warhol may have been, commercialism is not an art form.

GreyWanderer
06-19-2005, 11:27 AM
Totally agree with you on every pint there, Kronos.

As far as cost, I beleive the final total was $500.00. 8 hours woth of ink time and alot of good laughs and conversation.

And that added bonus of letting someone kinda special to see it first before all else.

Here is an example of a 'home' tattoo. We used a home made tattoo gun: motor courtesy of a Playstation controller, one fine line felt tip pen (for the barrel and nib), three rubber bands, one spoon handle, 1 paperclip, some electrical wire, the insides of a normal ink pen, one Playstation power plug, one sharpened wire brush bristle (for the needle) (very carefully sharpened. You don't want burrs (they literally tear the skin to shreds), or flat spots). Ink used was leather dye. We had Magic Black, but we spilt it. It took my mate six hours to put this on me, all in one sitting.

The moral of the story? Don't get drunk, and then MacGyver-like inventive, with artists.

Sweet wings!!! I wanted realistic faeries wings on my back...saw a cool set done in a tat magazine..but dont have the patience or money for that..and have a ton of small ones I want done...
I have two "self done" ones...one I did myself is on the inside of my right ankle and is a rune symbol for Love..and then a friend was suppose to do a pentacle on my upper left arm..but sucked at it..it's messed...I'm hoping to get them both fixed professionally someday...
Right now I have four planned tattoos when I can..my first is going to be of the Sanrio character Cinnamoroll on my outer left ankle...then(in no order)I want an animal rights type one somewhere, a faerie flying with faerie dust on my abdomon, then I had this picture in my head for one on my lower back of my favourite animals in a U shape(three of them, I only have a rat decided right now)and the pics being wrapped in vines and such...I also ant a Japanese symbol somewhere..havent fully decided that yet...Of course I will probably want more as I go!!

(Sorry for the ramble..I tend to do that when talking about tattoos or peircings and such interests)

Merry Meet everyone

If, or should I say when, I get a tattoo I want to go Big. Like maybe my whole upper torso. I kindda have an idea, you guys tell me want you think. :D

A short sleeve chainlink shirt all around my body, not just the front, with a penticle in the middle of my pecs. With a cresent moon inside the penticle. :ha

Yeah, maybe that's a bit much, or sounds kindda stupid :disgust
but that what I want none the less. :D

A bit bold for your first tattoo ahh. I would suggest something smaller to start out with, maybe do a forearm piece first or something so you know what it feels like first. When you jump into something large like that all at once you may be underestimating the pain. Just make sure you can handle it first. :) You really dont want to stop in the middle of something like that.

Don't get drunk, and then MacGyver-like inventive, with artists.

nice British Romanticism image by Fuseli "The Nightmare" very well done.

Oh really? What were you thinking about? Me and my fiance are thinking about getting matching biohazard symbols somewherre for out first tattoos. I've previously designed wing tattoos for us, but they're a little intense for first-time tattoos. I estimated about 9 or more hours, possibly 4 or 5 appointments, to actually fit in all the detail in them. It's not that they have a lot of rendering, it's just that they have a lot of detail in them.... Not to mention what a pretty penny they'll cost, concidering theyre fullback designs.

That sounds gorgeous! The idea sounds awsome, expensive but they're gonna be there forever so totally worth it :) I think the detail makes the tatoo's for most people and if you designed them yourself its even mroe special for the both of you.

Are you jsut thinkign about it for the moment?

I'd really like a tatoo for my brother on my wrists along my veigna dn maybe one crossing it. I'd also love one over my ribs. I'm just not certain what i'd like on my ribs quite yet, its gotta be perfect if its staying there my life time so have to be sure.

Any one ever really regretted any tatoo work done?

I don't have any as yet but when I'm 18 I'll get two. Algiz rune on my left shoulderblade and Tyr rune on my right shoulderblade. It's an alternative to the Fylfot I originally wanted....can't have a Fylfot as it is too associated with a certain group of Rightist twits.

I have only two... *pouts*

One being a Shen on my left wrist; Egyptian, essentially a circle with an under score beneath it; negative energy protection and a sigil for eternity.

The other being a sigil on my left shoulder blade. And it is more of a personal icon, but still, 2nd tat... so, I can mention it being there, even if specifics are a bit too personal;)

My little star has not been enough, and I'm really itching to get another one. However, I do still live at home half the year and respect my mother enough not to get another one while I'm still living with her because she does not like them very much. She thinks they are "risky," but I think this is mostly her trying to figure up a sound, unbiased objection to mask her personal displeasure with tattoos.

I figure that I will be in school for atleast another four or five years so I will have time to decide and probably draw out some things for myself, and since I'm intending to be in the medical field (a RN, a PA, or a doctor--how does one decide?), I would love to have a variation of the Staff of Asclepius. I find it entirely approperiate.

I have nine tattoos two on both wrists. One on the back of my neck two on my shoulders, and L O V E on four fingers. I am about to get my name on the side of my lip, and after that I am thinking about getting the symbols of the sex slave on the neck and lower on my wrists. The ones I have now the love and then the wrists have two Chinese symbols on both wrists which they all mean Angel, Cursed, Demented, and finally Rage. On the back of my neck it has Rest in Peace Mother and Father. The ones on my shoulders Are An Angel and a devil to represent well...the angel and the devil ohm....that should cover it...

At the moment I only have the one, its a pentacle in between my Shoulder blades (my mother was very happy with me for getting that one done :p )

As for the rest of my body, I've been planning with my land lord's nephew (tattooist for almost 10 years) to get a pool cue running down each side of my body, starting just below my armpit then finishing just above my ankle. I'm also starting to save to save for my back piece, a phoenix curled on an eight ball with its wings stretching up my back then dissolving into flames.

On my left fore arm, I'm getting what's called a "waiters friend" and a "bar blade", this is for two reasons. the first of which, I've been in the hospitality industry since I was 13, and can work in any sort of cafe', restaurant and any bar. The other is that I love knowing that I can walk into any place and know that I am very good at what I do.

On my right fore arm, I'm going to get a band of lace that wraps around and consist's of 6-7 layers, the lace itself was made by my great great grandmother. No other reason than that I think it's pretty and I don't want to be lopsided.

I want a couple of tattoos. Don't know where of what though :P My issue is my nana though, 'cos she's a jehovahs witness and doesn't think they're right and I know it would hurt her if I got one, even though I'm not a j/w myself. My mum has one and has to hide it from her *sigh* But I so want one.

I've been planning a lot of tattoos, and more piercings.

I'm a fan of symmetry, so if I get something on one side of my body, it won't feel right unless I get something on the other side... Eh. And some of the tattoos I want are cliche (like angel wings on my shoulder blades), but a lot of them are less common.

For example, I want to get a set of "f-hole" tattoos (ever seen a violin, or a cello? The holes on the body are sometimes called "f" holes) on the insides of my wrists. I'd like a star on my sternum, a cross on my left ankle and a eighth note on my right... a pair of sparrows on my lower back and a tribal on my tail bone. Somewhere (I don't know where yet) I want a tattoo of a compass rose.

As for piercings, I have two in each earlobe and I have one in my upper left cartilage. I want another pair in my earlobes, an industrial through my right cartilage, an eyebrow, a nose ring, and either a tongue or a labret... I also want to get a navel. My friend Amanda still maintains that if she can ever get me drunk enough, she's going to take me to get my nipples pierced. :p

Tattered, if you think it's going o hurt your Nana, you could always do what your mom does, and put it in a place that's easy to hide (also a good idea if you want to get a job where tattoos are frowned upon... the easier it is to hide, the more job opportunities you have). If you want to get the tattoo somewhere else on your body, and find yourself trying to explain to your Nana, tell her that you're still the same person and you still love her, and yadda. Every time I get a new body mod my grandpa absolutely explodes. Eventually he calms down, but he's starting to just learn to overlook them. :]

I actually want a few too.

I am studying tattoos and currently working on another portfolio of art to show some shops. I am trying to become a tattoo artist.

lets see. I want the wiccan symbol of the goddess between my shoulder blades just below my neck, I want a yellow rose on one shoulder blade and an easter lily on the other. The two grandmother's I had loved those flowers. And I want a boy angel bound in chains somewhere.. My best friend died from cancer in 03 so it would mean a lot to have him as an angel tattooed on my back. I want a dragonfly on my left hand where my pointer finger knuckle is. and I wanted a couple feathers on my arm.

haha, and a few piercings.

I think tattoos are less regrettable if it means something important... I know (and have seen) some people who want to get tats that just look like little stickers which eventually will morph into a muddled blob on their old and wrinkly skin. it's a sad thing.

I have a wide chestpiece of a skull with a rose on either side, and some ribbons for good measure ;) (I wanted spider webs too, but we didn't get that far). On the skull it says "war casualty". The "war" is cracked into the skull because I've been fighting for a particular cause my whole life; "casualty" is in calligraphy under it, matching the beauty of the roses, because on an epiphany I gave up on the uselessness of fighting and decided to "die" to that path of life and find my own. And I'm still wheighing career options- tattoo artist or other graphic design artistry XD.
